The Blue Hill Co-op Mission Statement

Blue Hill Co-op is a cooperative committed to understanding the relationship between consumption, health, and community. The following visions and values underlie this mission and our policies:

  1. Knowing that mindful consumption can lead to improved health, the Co-op is a democratic organization dedicated to supplying food, sharing information, practicing economic sustainability, and encouraging community strength, with respect for the diverse requirements of all people.

  2. Believing that a community is healthier when nutritious foods and quality products are available, the Co-op operates a storefront so that members may acquire and sell the products and services they desire.

  3. Seeing that community grows from the ability of people to come together, the Co-op is committed to supporting and fostering other community-minded organizations.

  4. Understanding that we are linked to other sentient beings without regard to political boundaries, we seek to practice cooperation, non-violence, and compassion.

The Blue Hill Co-op was established in 1975 to serve the needs of the communities of the Blue Hill Peninsula. Incorporated in 1979, the Co-op has coordinated a pre-order pick up for organic and locally grown produce and now manages the Co-op Community Market and Café in downtown Blue Hill.

Co-op Voices Unite! grew out of the Blue Hill Co-op’s wide commitment to ensuring a supply of good food for its membership — locally grown, organic, and GE free. This committee acts as the political outreach arm of the Co-op.

Members own and govern the Co-op through a Board of Directors and each adult member has an equal share and vote in the selection of the Board and guiding the direction and mission of the Cooperative.

Anyone may join the Blue Hill Co-op and contributions and memberships from people living nearby as well as at greater distances greatly facilitate the work of the Co-op in reaching out to educate and promote the possibility of healthy food and a peaceful world for all beings.

Annual Dues are $20 per adult household member. An initial, refundable, deposit to help capitalize the Co-op of $20 per household in also required. Working members currently receive a 10% discount on most purchases. Supporting members (non-working) a 3% discount.

Thank you for your support of the Blue Hill Co-op and your patronage at the Co-op Community Market and Café.
