a flood of letters and calls can change legislation!

Action Alert Message! from C0-op Voices Unite!Letters from the public are very powerful tools for making change. Businesses and government officials use them as indicators of popular opinion. The most effective letters are brief, clear and to the point. The more personal the letter, the more influence it has.

  • Write commentaries and letters to the Editors of newspapers to keep Maine free from Genetically engineered crops. (Tips on writing letters to Editors, legislators or radio commentarys and more tips)

  • Email your local newspaper (list of email addresses)

  • Call your state legislators

  • Call your local Shaw’s Supermarket and express your concern. Ask that they take GMOs out of Shaw’s line of products.

  • Ask your elected officials to co-sponsor the bills proposed for the labeling and control of GE food: “The Genetically Engineered Food Right to Know Act”. The House bill HR 3377, sponsored by Representative Dennis Kucinich. The Senate bill S 2080, sponsored by Senator Barbara Boxer.
